Questions teachers and parents ask
What should kids learn in Kindergarten art?
Most primary art programs build on the Elements of Art: line, shape, form, color, value, texture and space. In Kindergarten, students usually focus on holding tools, naming colors and shapes, and trying lots of different lines. Your local curriculum has the final say, so use these lessons to fill in the pieces it asks for.
How long should a kindergarten art lesson be?
Short, hands-on steps work best for young artists. Many teachers split one project across two or three short sessions instead of one long one, which also gives paint and glue time to dry.
Can I use these lessons at home or in a homeschool?
Yes. The lessons are written for a classroom but the steps work at a kitchen table too. Read each lesson description before you start so you know which supplies to gather.
How often should Kindergarten students have art?
It depends on your school or homeschool schedule. A steady routine, even one lesson a week, helps students build skills and confidence over the year.
