This is a great packet! My older kids even love it! Cute artwork. Some of the pages teach pre-cursive strokes, so it works across the board! Thank you!

This Trace Lines for Fine Motor Control workbook gives Pre-K, Kindergarten and primary students repeated practice tracing a wide variety of lines and shapes. It builds the pencil control and fine motor skills young learners need for early drawing and writing.

The pages mix skill practice with playful themed images such as rockets, cars, mice and flowers, so tracing feels more like a game. It is made for teachers, art teachers and homeschoolers, and it works as a full workbook or as single handouts.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (NON-EDITABLE PDF)

  • 1 Cover Page
  • 1 Teacher Information and How-to-Use Page with workbook, handout and booklet ideas
  • 1 Lesson Plan Page, including an optional crayon resist art extension
  • 1 Student Title Page where students write their name and draw their own lines
  • Trace the Lines Pages
  • Trace the Shapes Pages
  • Line and Shape Tracing Pages with playful images and themes

Tracing styles include: straight, dotted, wavy, zig zag, looping and curved lines, circles, shapes, maze-like paths, boxes and squares, hearts, and line paths connected to themed drawings.

HOW TO USE IT

Print and photocopy the pages single-sided or double-sided and staple them into a student workbook, or photocopy single pages as individual handouts. You can also build custom booklets based on student interests, or add pages to duo tangs for student art collections. Use them for fine motor practice, morning work, centers, quiet work, early finishers, sub plans or homeschool practice.

For an art extension, the lesson plan suggests having students trace with crayon and then paint the background with watercolor. Students watch the paint move away from the crayon lines, a simple crayon resist. Along the way they practice fine motor control, pencil grip, line and shape awareness, hand-eye coordination, visual tracking and pre-writing skills.

I printed some on colorful paper and laminated them. The students get extra fine motor practice, but think they are playing a game. I also printed some off on white paper so the students can rainbow trace them. Thank you for this creative resource.
