Questions teachers and parents ask

What should kids learn in 2nd grade art?

Most primary art programs build on the Elements of Art: line, shape, form, color, value, texture and space. In 2nd grade, students usually focus on line, shape and color, with more of their own ideas in every project. Your local curriculum has the final say, so use these lessons to fill in the pieces it asks for.

How do I choose the right lesson for my 2nd grade class?

Each lesson card shows the grade range listed for that lesson. Many lessons cover a few grades, so you can pick one at, just below or just above your grade and adjust the steps for your group.

Can I use these lessons at home or in a homeschool?

Yes. The lessons are written for a classroom but the steps work at a kitchen table too. Read each lesson description before you start so you know which supplies to gather.

How often should 2nd grade students have art?

It depends on your school or homeschool schedule. A steady routine, even one lesson a week, helps students build skills and confidence over the year.
