First and Second graders were very excited when I used parts of this lesson, as a one class activity.

These Monster Art Lessons on color come together as a creative student art book for Pre-K and Kindergarten. It is a gentle introduction to art for young students that teaches them how to draw, what contrasting colors are and how to mix their own colors.

Along the way, students use their imagination to create their own monsters, a monster landscape and their own world. There is a lesson plan for every page, which also makes it handy for sub plans.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

A Student Art Book (7 pages and 1 coloring title page) and a Teacher Lesson Plan for each page:

  • Whistling Trace Lines
  • Color the Rainbow
  • Creating Colors
  • Contrasting Colors (2 pages)
  • Make a Monster (2 pages)
  • Monster Land
  • My World

HOW TO USE IT

Print and photocopy the student pages single or double sided and staple them into a work book. On the first page, students write their name and color the image. You can use the title page as a hook and have students wonder what they might learn. If you prefer not to use a work book, photocopy each page as a handout to go with its lesson plan and have students write their names on the back.

The lessons work with a variety of mark making mediums, and the lesson plans suggest different mediums or combinations to try.
