This Valentine's Day Llama Art Lesson is a directed art project where students draw a llama with Valentine's details, then finish it by layering wax crayons and painting with washable felt markers. The finished pieces make a fun Valentine's bulletin board display.
It is a good way to keep students engaged as Valentine's Day gets closer (and they've had too much candy). Plan on an afternoon of art making. The lesson works for both classrooms and homeschool programs.

HOW TO USE IT
Read the lesson plan first to see the steps and gather your materials in advance. You may want to make a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Print the finished example in color and show it before the lesson as your hook, and photocopy the step-by-step drawing handouts and rubrics.
During the lesson, project the step-by-step pages from the PDF on a digital projector or under a document camera so students can follow along, or use them as your own guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a picture and a text description, which keeps things clear for students.
Materials: pencil, eraser, black felt, step-by-step drawing handouts (a class set of 30), washable felt markers, card stock or watercolor paper, wax crayons, paint brush and water.
