I loved the step by step drawing handout for students to reference, and the pre-made rubric! They really enjoyed the mixed media portion of this activity.

In this free Summer Art Project, students use oil pastel, glue and watercolor paint to create an ocean-inspired Ocean Birds art piece. It also makes a nice gift for a parent.

This was the 400th resource in the Ms Artastic store, so this full-sized lesson is free as a thank you. It comes with a visual and text step-by-step (each step on its own page), a lesson plan, a rubric, a finished example and a step-by-step drawing handout so students can complete the piece successfully.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (32 PAGES)

  • Art piece demonstration step-by-step with descriptions and images (14 slides)

HOW TO USE IT

Read through the lesson plan and gather your materials in advance: pencil, eraser, black felt, step-by-step draw handouts (30 copies), watercolor paint or paint cakes, card stock or watercolor paper, oil pastels, a paint brush and water. Look over the step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students.

Print the poster sample in color and show it as your hook. Then project the PDF, show it under a document camera, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description.
