My students were intimidated at first, but once they got started they really surprised themselves. They were happy with the step by step directions that were very clear.

In this Earth Day Tiger Art Project, students explore wildlife conservation while building strong drawing and coloring skills. They learn to draw a powerful tiger portrait and finish it with oil pastels and watercolor paint for bold contrast and expressive color.

Students follow a clear sequence of drawing steps to build the tiger's face, adding fur texture, facial details and stripes. They then add oil pastel stripes, orange watercolor for the fur and a green painted background to create a striking circular composition. It suits elementary and middle school art classes, homeschool art programs, Earth Day lessons and endangered animal units.

WHAT STUDENTS LEARN

Students practice observational drawing of wildlife, facial symmetry and animal proportions, and texture and fur patterns using expressive line. They combine oil pastels and watercolor for strong color contrast, and reflect on endangered species and Earth Day conservation themes.

The lesson shows students that art can communicate ideas and build empathy for wildlife. The finished tigers make a vibrant display for Earth Day or a conservation unit.
