Winter Snowman Art Project for Kids with Printable Art Lesson Plans
Winter Snowman Art Project for Kids with Printable Art Lesson Plans
I love seeing kids make snowmen on the playground (even when they pick up rocks) so I will provide you with a simple yet effective art lesson to get your students in exploring art making mediums with simple strategies to create an art project featuring a winter snowman art project. Read on to find the steps for creating and the full art lesson and downloadable PDF lesson plan and worksheets.

Materials and Hook for the Art Lesson
For this art lesson, you will need a thick piece of white paper such as cardstock, something to draw with such as black wax crayon or colored pencil, and watercolor paints or tempera paint cakes
Begin the lesson with hooking your students on the lesson. You can click here and follow the full video art lesson and create an example to show your students or you can start off with a classroom discussion and ask them a question: “What activities are exclusive to winter?” “What do you imagine when you think of snow?” “How does the snow change the environment around us?” Record all their answers on chart paper or on the board.
Next, you can explain you will be creating an artwork of a winter snowman!
Step 1: Draw a Snowman Hat

Start the artwork by drawing a hat of your own design at the top center of the paper. Model drawing it large or show them the full video art lesson that you can watch by clicking here.
Step 2: Create Head

Next, draw a large U shape below the hat to create the head. Add a scarf of your design below the head and add two little curves on either side for where the branch arms will go.
Step 3: Add Body Parts

Draw the middle body part and add branches to create the arms. Remember to make it imperfect as snowmen are built by hand and never end up perfect. They’re perfectly imperfect!
Step 4: Add the final Snowman Details

Finally, add your own choice snowman details and design a face. Add a snow drift along the front with a wavy line.
To finish your artwork, you can paint your art with watercolor paints or tempera paint cakes or use your own choice of art medium instead if you prefer!
