This Valentine’s Dinosaur Art Lesson is a Valentine’s Day art project where students use oil pastel and paint to create a dinosaur artwork that looks great on a Valentine’s bulletin board. It is a fun way to keep students engaged as Valentine’s Day gets closer, and it fits nicely into an afternoon of art.

The lesson comes with a visual and text step-by-step (each step on its own page with a description), a lesson plan, a rubric, a finished example and a step-by-step drawing handout, for the classroom or homeschool.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (30 PAGES, NON-EDITABLE)

  • About the Product with a lesson overview, objectives and materials
  • Lesson Plan (2 pages) with materials list, learning outcomes and a “Teacher Does/Student Does” guide
  • Valentine’s Day Dinosaur Step-by-Step Drawing Handout
  • Art Piece Demonstration (18 slides) with visual step-by-step instructions and written descriptions
  • Example of Completed Art Piece for student reference and the lesson introduction
  • Rubric for Assessment

HOW TO USE IT

Read the lesson plan and gather the materials in advance, and photocopy the step-by-step drawing handouts and rubrics. You may want to make a sample yourself first. Print the example artwork in color and show it before the lesson as your hook.

During the lesson, project the step-by-step pages (on a digital projector or under a document camera) for students to follow, or use them as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has a visual and a text description, which keeps things clear.

I love these types of resources because they have everything I need in regards to instructions and an example! My 2nd graders loved being able to paint theirs after using pencil, permanent marker and oil pastels! They have a way of turning out unique in their own way! Highly recommend!
