This poppy art project was a wonderful classroom activity for Remembrance Day. It gave students a creative way to learn about the significance of the poppy while showing respect and appreciation for our veterans. The activity was engaging, easy to use, and resulted in beautiful artwork that students were proud to display. A great addition to any Remembrance Day lesson!

My students loved this activity. The instructions were simple to follow, and my students were able to individualize their final work. I will definitely be using this again.

The project opens up meaningful discussions about history, remembrance and gratitude, and it makes a natural cross-curricular connection to Social Studies or History. It works in classrooms and homeschool settings, and it gives students a personal way to express emotion and build their art skills.

HOW TO USE IT

Look over the lesson plan and gather your materials ahead of time: pencil, eraser, black felt, card stock or watercolor paper, pencil crayons, washable felt markers, a paintbrush and water, plus a class set of the step-by-step drawing handout and rubric. You may want to make a sample yourself first so you can help students later.

Print the example in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then project the step-by-step pages from the PDF, show them under a document camera, or use them as your own guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description, so students can follow along clearly.
