This MLK Word Art Project helps students reflect on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s message of peace, kindness, equality, respect and leadership while they explore oil pastel and paint techniques. Students create a word art piece using color blending and resist painting.
It works as a cross-curricular activity for MLK Day, Black History Month or social justice lessons. Students express their thoughts on equality through their artwork while building skills in color theory, blending and resist painting.

★★★★★it is often hard to build in an art program into your special education curriculum, but this activity made it very easy to do. My students loved this activity and they were very engaged. I loved the little preparation involved in utilizing this activity, it took no time at all to get it started. This was an excellent morning work and week before break activity that was very impactful in every way. It proved very handy in at a moments notice.
