This was a great, quick, lesson for sixth grade. They really wanted a Halloween project to take home.

In this Halloween Bat Art Lesson, students learn a variety of processes to create a bat art piece using pencil crayon and paint. It is a great project for Halloween, or for when your students are learning about bats and nocturnal animals in science.

The lesson comes with a visual and text step-by-step (each step on its own page with a description), a rubric for marking, and a Step-by-Step Draw: Bat handout so students can create the piece successfully. All of my art lessons are original ideas by Ms Artastic.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (PDF)

  • About the Product page
  • Lesson Plan with materials, learning outcomes, goals and "Teacher Does/Student Does"
  • Art Rubric
  • Bat Step-by-Step Draw worksheet for students
  • Art Piece Demonstration Step-by-Step with descriptions and images (28 slides)
  • Example of the Art Piece (poster sample) to show students before they start

HOW TO USE IT

Look over the lesson plan for what to do and which materials you need, and gather them in advance. Read through the visual and text step-by-steps, and consider making a sample yourself so you are ready to help students. Photocopy the student handouts, such as the step-by-step draw and the rubric.

Print the poster sample in color and show it before the lesson as your hook. Then show the PDF on a projector or under a document camera for students to follow, or use it as your guide while you demonstrate. Every step has both a visual and a text description.
