A great resource which provides lesson plans, as well as activities and examples. The What is it? portion is wonderful for discussing the ethics and legality of graffiti art. One suggestion would be to include a brief history of graffiti art and renown graffiti artists. Overall, wonderful resource for the price.

Great lettering lesson. However, on the alphabet example, several of my students were asking for example letters from the whole alphabet and the example stops at J? I cannot recall. But it would be great to have the entire alphabet for that one example. Overall, awesome project. I used it as a weekly sketch.

This is a great resource! A teacher could definitely take it and run with it quite easily. The only setback for me is the assessment sheets wouldn't work with my school board's expectation. That's not the fault of the creator...just something to be aware of. I will need to revise the assessment.

This Graffiti Drawing Art Lesson teaches graffiti lettering, bubble and wildstyle fonts and the ethics of street art. Students develop their own graffiti-style lettering while exploring visual communication, composition and artistic voice. It is written for Grades 4 to 8, works well for hooking disengaged learners, and is structured enough to leave with a sub.

The unit combines drawing techniques, visual journaling and art history. Students explore the history of graffiti, including its early origins, learn to lay out and stylize letters, and think critically about when and how graffiti is appropriate. Prompts, research tasks, critiques, coloring sheets and inquiry pages let you adapt it for different learners.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (NON-EDITABLE)

  • PowerPoint Presentation: "Wildstyle Art: Student Examples" slideshow for peer critique and discussion
  • Lesson Plans (2 pages each) with a "Teacher Does / Student Does" layout for every lesson
  • 35 Student Workbook Pages: What I Know About Graffiti; What is Graffiti? (history, legality and discussion prompts); Graffiti Inquiry (street artists, cultural impact and early civilizations); Graffiti Name Letter Layout Practice; Wildstyle and Bubble Font Drawing Pages; #FavoriteLetter drawing page; Graffiti Alphabet Design; Graffiti Tag Composition; Final Wildstyle Art Project Page; Rough Draft, Brainstorming and Research Pages; Student/Teacher Evaluation Forms
  • 5 Printable Graffiti Coloring Sheets for early finishers or adapted use
  • Bulletin Board Display Kit with a title sign and name cards

HOW TO USE IT

Use it for middle school art units, upper elementary enrichment, visual journals and sketchbooks, homeschool art, substitute art lessons, street art and art history integration, and art on a cart. It also works well at back to school or after a break.

The final wildstyle name project and the display kit make an eye-catching graffiti wall for Open House, Meet the Teacher Night or a back-to-school showcase of student names.

FAQ

What grades is it for?

Grades 4 to 8. It can be adapted for advanced elementary students and younger high school beginners.

Does it include art history or ethics?

Yes. Students learn about the origins of graffiti, discuss street art ethics, and explore the legal and cultural sides of graffiti art.

Can I use it for a display?

As a French as a Second Language (FSL) teacher, I found the Graffiti Art Lessons Drawing Worksheets Graffiti Art Project Activities Draw resource to be an excellent addition to my classroom. This comprehensive unit offers a structured approach to teaching graffiti-style lettering, combining artistic techniques with cultural exploration, making it suitable for Grades 4–8. Strengths: Comprehensive Content: The unit includes 35 student workbook pages covering topics such as graffiti history, layout practice, wildstyle and bubble fonts, and final art projects. This breadth ensures a well-rounded exploration of graffiti art. Cultural Relevance: Students learn about the origins and evolution of graffiti, including its ancient roots, providing context and fostering a deeper understanding of the art form. Engaging Activities: Activities like creating a graffiti tag composition, designing a graffiti alphabet, and reflecting on the ethics of street art keep students engaged and encourage critical thinking. Teacher Support: The resource provides lesson plans with a structured "Teacher Does / Student Does" layout, making it easy to implement in the classroom. Areas for Improvement: Visual Appeal: While the content is rich, incorporating more colorful visuals or examples could enhance student engagement and provide clearer guidance for the activities. Differentiation: Including differentiated tasks or scaffolding strategies would better support students with varying skill levels and learning needs. Conclusion: Overall, the Graffiti Art Lessons Drawing Worksheets Graffiti Art Project Activities Draw resource is a valuable tool for introducing students to graffiti art in a structured and culturally informed manner. With minor enhancements in visual design and differentiation, it can become an even more effective resource in fostering creativity and critical thinking in the classroom.
