Excellent - I love this resource! My students are often at different points in finishing assignments in Art and this activity works well as a go-to project to work on when they have some time. I've also been using it as a teaching tool that keeps us all progressing in the same direction. It's a great set of pre-made activities that are a combination of specific teaching and a chance to be creative.

This is an excellent resource. I used it with my gifted and talented students to teach them the elements of art before they made their self-portraits.

This Elements of Art Workbook introduces the seven elements, Line, Shape, Color, Texture, Value, Form and Space, through structured pages and open-ended art prompts. It is written for upper elementary, middle school and high school art classes.

Each element has an information page, an exploration page and two art prompt pages, so students learn the concept and then apply it. The prompts are medium-flexible and choice-based, so students can work in dry or wet media and bring in their own ideas.

WHAT'S INCLUDED (NON-EDITABLE PDF, AMERICAN ENGLISH)

  • Title Page for booklet format
  • Assessment Rubric
  • KWL Chart
  • Final Workbook Reflection Sheet
  • For each of the 7 elements: 1 informational page, 1 exploration or mini activity page and 2 art prompt pages

That is 28 student pages, plus the assessment and reflection tools.

HOW TO USE IT

Print single pages as handouts or glue-ins, or bind the full workbook with the cover page or put it in student duotangs. Use the informational and exploration pages to build understanding, then choose one or both art prompts to reinforce each element. Pick the art mediums yourself or leave it to student choice.

It works for warm-ups, weekly sketchbook or visual journal prompts, sub plans and emergency lessons, homeschool art, and remote or hybrid learning. Plan it once and use it all year.
