★★★★★In our district we do PBL as a big chunk of our day. So all of the 6th grade teachers met, searched teachers pay teachers for a pbl project associated with our next Science unit and we picked yours. We are so thankful for something that is already created and ready to go instead of us having to start something from scratch. We are all excited to use it and love that is allows for flexibility among each teacher so that it can be adapted to our classrooms, but still getting the point across. The only thing we saw was that a few of things might be a little too low level for sixth grade, but they are easy to adapt so we are all good! Thanks!

★★★★★This packet is amazing!! As both a science and ELA teacher, I couldn't think of a better resource for my 4th graders. My kids have thoroughly enjoyed learning about their animals and even though writing is an area many of them dislike, the assignments are broken up into smaller parts, so the writing part hasn't been too bad either :) I highly recommend this resource!

★★★★★Really fun project! I am excited to do this with my students. I love the provided lesson plans with the teacher does/students do format. Quick editorial note though: first page, "The Beginning...," the first line says, "You are have been hired." I would suggest making that passage present tense. Thank you so much for creating and sharing this!

Explore Animals and Their Habitats with This Hands-On, Cross-Curricular Project-Based Learning Unit! Get your students fully engaged in learning with this interactive, inquiry-based unit that blends science, research, creative writing, drawing, problem-solving, and model-building into one unforgettable experience. Perfect for elementary classrooms and homeschool families, this project allows kids to dive deep into animal research and bring their learning to life by designing a dream habitat for an animal of their choice!
Project Prompt – Let the Inquiry Begin!
Your students have just been hired by the imaginary “X-Animal Company” to design a state-of-the-art zoo habitat. Their task? Become an animal expert and create a small-scale dream habitat model based on real-world data. But first—they’ll go on virtual expeditions, write journal entries, collect facts, research food chains, analyze environments and threats, and craft an informational report... all before building their final model habitat!
Students will:
- Research animals, ecosystems, predators, prey, and adaptations using books and technology
- Write engaging journal entries from the perspective of an explorer or zoologist
- Organize findings into an informational report
- Apply creativity, engineering, and science knowledge to design and build a model animal habitat
Why Project-Based Learning?
Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a powerful instructional method where students explore a driving question or challenge over time. Unlike traditional projects, PBL places the learning within the process—students discover new knowledge as they work toward a solution. This method promotes critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and self-directed learning, and helps kids develop real-world skills through meaningful, hands-on tasks.
This resource is the perfect way to integrate science, writing, and art into one cohesive unit that makes a BIG impact. It’s ideal for end-of-year projects, science integration, or anytime you want to do something a little more magical and memorable with your learners.
