This Summer Tropical Fish Craft and Write combines an art and craft lesson with fiction and non-fiction writing. Students follow a tutorial to make a tropical fish craft, then add their own touches with a choice of cut-and-glue elements so every fish looks a little different.
After the craft, students write about it using planning pages, prompt pages or blank writing pages, and finish with coloring, reflection and a 3 Stars and a Wish. The adaptable templates make it suitable for 1st to 5th grade. The craft is made in the style of the Ms Artastic YouTube Channel.

HOW TO USE IT
Photocopy the craft elements and put a few out at each table so students can choose the ones they want. Save the unused pieces with the lesson plan for next year, which means less prep and less waste. The templates suit different skill levels, so you can run it as a quick activity or a more detailed project.
The writing pages come in primary and intermediate versions, so you can match the writing to your learners and age group. Students practice drawing, crafting and writing that reflects the craft they made.

★★ “Love this project but it was hard to complete with my students since there are so many parts and the students needed lots of help on completing the fish. We ended up abandoning this project, hopefully in the future I can try this again.” molly K.
