I love when the leaves change and they begin to change into those warm, beautiful colors. This is a great opportunity to teach your students about both Autumn and the Element of Art: Line using this FREE Art Tutorial. First, on card stock paper, paint some leaf shapes using orange acrylic or tempera paint. Either use pre-mixed paint, or have your students mix yellow and red.

Next, while your leaves dry, on blue construction paper, draw swirls in the background using both light blue and white oil pastel to create texture with line that represents the wind on a blustery, autumn day.

Once your leaves are dry, draw a straight line down each leaf shape. On one side of the leaf, draw line patterns using your blue oil pastel.

To finish your art piece, cut out the leaves in more refined shapes and recycle the remaining paper or save it in a Makerspace for sketchbooking or collaging. Glue them onto your blue background. Your art piece is now done!
